INTERNAL APPLICANTS

“Internal applications” to the Interfaces of Global Change (IGC) Program are those submitted by existing Virginia Tech graduate students who are currently in their 1st or 2nd year of study. (This restriction is necessary to ensure that the student will have enough time to complete the IGC requirements.)

Admission deadlines for internal applicants are as follows:

  • Admission in August- deadline for applications is March 1st.
  • Admission in January- deadline for applications is November 30th.

Any student intending to apply for an IGC fellowship along with admission should apply in the March 1 application cycle only.[/vc_column_text][vc_separator style=”shadow”][vc_column_text]

Application Format

Please pay close attention to the application requirements described below.  Incorrectly formatted or incomplete applications will not be considered by the admissions committee.  Each applicant must have a clearly articulated funding plan (at least 3 years of financial support planned, which cannot include the IGC fellowship).  If the funding plan includes any departmental support (e.g., GTA), the letter must include a signature from the home department’s authorized representative (department head or graduate program coordinator).[/vc_column_text][vc_separator][vc_column_text]

However, single-year fellowships (which include funding for tuition costs and a monthly stipend) are awarded competitively on an annual basis. In your application cover letter, please clearly indicate whether you need to be considered for this additional financial support.
