These systems are diverse in nature, scale, and physics and include, for instance, atmosphere, ocean, and streams. With a synergistic blend of numerical simulations, theory, experiments, and observations he characterizes the transport of pollutants (chemicals, pathogens, allergens, and toxins) in these flow systems. His research is highly interdisciplinary and integrates fluid dynamics, atmospheric, Earth and environmental, and aerosol sciences. He is actively engaged in global change projects related to air pollution, human exposure and health, climate dynamics, and biological systems, where environmental flows and transport processes have a critical role.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”40909″ img_size=”275×355″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_border”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1618413940492{margin-top: -5px !important;margin-bottom: 4px !important;}”]Dr. Foroutan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Virginia Tech, following a postdoctoral fellowship at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He holds a doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering (with a minor in Computational Science) from Penn State.
