[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Dr. Ramseyer’s research expertise includes tropical climatology, climate modeling, and hydroclimatology. His primary area of research focuses on tropical rainfall, particularly in the Caribbean, and how climate change is likely to change drought and flooding. In a collaboration with the Luquillo Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) Site in Puerto Rico, Dr. Ramseyer is working to create climate models customized to address the research challenges among colleagues in the fields of ecology, botany, and stream chemistry. He has developed expertise in leveraging machine learning, specifically artificial neural networks and self-organizing maps, to conduct high-resolution climate modeling.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”55683″ img_size=”275×355″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_border”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text]Several graduate level courses that may be of interest to IGC Fellows are currently taught by Dr. Ramseyer or are in the works for future course offerings: a seminar related to climate downscaling work, where students are learning how to create models using machine learning techniques; plans for a new ‘rotating topics’ graduate seminar in climate science that will cover topics such as urban climate and climate change, physical climate system dynamics and climate change modeling; a Climate Data Analysis and Programming course; and a Hydroclimatology course.
Other research published by Dr. Ramseyer has examined weather impacts on football player mortality, climate change impacts on severe convective environments, and moisture impacts on Greenland ice melt. His publications have appeared in Climate Dynamics, Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, International Journal of Climatology, and Science of the Total Environment. He is an active member of the American Geophysical Union, American Meteorological Society, and the American Association of Geographers.
