Since joining VT in January 2011, most of his work has been multi-disciplinary, with colleagues in Geography, Forestry, Remote Sensing, Engineering, and Statistics. His international connections have facilitated collaborations with the European Union and several European universities.  Dr. Moeltner specializes in the valuation of environmental amenities and natural resources, such as clean air and water, forest health, reduction of flood risk, reliable energy, recreational opportunities, and so on – and, naturally, any changes in the quality or quantity of these amenities for natural or human-induced reasons. Monetizing these values aids decision makers in their comparison of benefits and costs of planned environmental interventions and policies, and provides guidance for environmental damage assessments.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”46397″ img_size=”275×355″ alignment=”center” style=”vc_box_border”][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]To tackle research problems at the interface of environmental sciences and economics, Dr. Moeltner draws on his background in environmental sciences and planning (MS degree from the University of Life Sciences in Vienna, Austria) as well as his training in economic theory and applied econometrics (PhD in Economics from the University of Washington). At VT, Dr. Moeltner teaches graduate courses in econometrics (with focus on Bayesian methods) and environmental economic theory. He is a Co-editor of Environmental and Resource Economics, a leading field journal.
